Décor lines are becoming increasingly important within the range of products offered by Italian DIY stores. It is obvious upon entering any outlet that this segment is claiming an increasingly large amount of space and that customers are offered a great diversity of choice. The latest store belonging to the Brico Io DIY chain, which opened at the beginning of July in the new Centro Sarca shopping centre at Sesto San Giovanni, is a particularly interesting and innovative example of this trend. It is also a very courageous example, in view of the limited size of its floorspace. A considerable proportion of the 1 500 m² gross retail area is dedicated to this department, which stocks a full range of products.
The latest Brico Io DIY store is situated in the Centro Sarca shopping centre at Sesto San Giovanni.
One section with classic products like blinds, curtain rails, curtains, haberdashery, fabrics (made-up and by the metre), cushions, tablecloths, carpets and doormats, is complemented by a second section geared to decorating and handicrafts. Available here are artists’ supplies, stencils, acrylic paints for fabric, glass and pottery, plus basic shapes made from cardboard, metal, wood and polystyrene for individual decorating. In addition there are materials for making dolls, soft toys, candles and soap, as well as plaster of Paris, borders, mosaic tiling, flowers, beads, wire and ribbons, and embroidery requisites and handicraft books too. Picture frames, posters, prints and mirrors are equally well represented. Many decorative displays convey inspiration and provide instructions for customers’ own creative output and, over and above all this, there are also plans to provide appropriate events for interested do-it-yourselfers.
A great deal of space is dedicated to the comprehensive decorating range.
The DIY store can offer further product ranges in addition to the decorating segment: tools, hardware, electrical products, lighting, paint, fittings and fixings, bathroom equipment, items of furniture, wood, self-assembly furniture and garden items. The product offer includes more than 20 000 articles. The lighting range has been placed prominently in the entrance area and middle of the DIY store, décor and hobby are positioned immediately to the right beyond the checkouts, and gardening to the left.
The choice of fabrics and textiles is also great.
