The latest Globus DIY store opened for business in the new specialist retail centre in Wörth, where it occupies a retail space of around 13 000 m² in combination with the affiliated garden centre. This is the company’s 50th outlet in Germany overall, added to which are eleven in Czechia. A walk round the store showed it to be light, bright and friendly. As in other outlets, you are faced with “soft” DIY (wallpaper) immediately to your right when you enter the store, and housewares to the left. Located along the extensive central aisle are four enquiry counters, which were manned continuously during our visit. The layout of the ranges in the store, which is somewhat unusual, does not conform to the pattern normally found in the trade: softer and harder product areas alternate. The garden centre is positioned at the back of the location on the left, along with the building materials department with the appropriate outdoor areas. When it comes to services, Globus offers the standard selection, though the seven-year guarantee on certain power tools and garden equipment is one striking feature that never fails to impress. The bistro, known as the “Trefferia”, in the entrance area of the store, is generous in size and well frequented. Globus Baumarkt ranks top in customer satisfaction in Germany. This is revealed in a major survey of DIY store customers carried out by Konzept & Markt and Dähne Verlag. This is the first time a sample poll has been carried out in Germany on the subject of “DIY superstores: the customer, the unknown quantity”. Seven different aspects were put to the respondents for their appraisal:O ChoiceO Pricing levelO Quality and serviceO StaffO AtmosphereO AdvertisingO Location/accessibility.There was a head-to-head race between Globus and Hornbach, which lasted right to the end. However, Globus finally managed to scrape ahead and win the contest. Altogether Hornbach came top twice (in “Quality and service” and “Choice”), while the Globus DIY stores came top five times (“Staff”, “Pricing level”, “Atmosphere”, “Advertising” and “Location/accessibility”).
