For more than ten years now trade professionals have been developing solutions to the special requirements of the DIY retail sector under the roof of Dachser, an internationally active logistics company. As an independent industry solution, Dachser DIY-Logistics has set itself the target of optimising the complete value chain from producer right through to consumer, with cooperation and expertise seen as the keys to the success of the exercise. How positively the market is reacting to integrated solutions is currently becoming evident in France and Russia, according to Boris Pierre of Dachser France. As he says, with emphasis on the fact that the company occupies a unique position: ?We are the only DIY logistics suppliers who are able to provide manufacturers and retailers with all relevant services from the one single source.? Dachser aims for the optimization of the interlinking between industry and international retailing, to allow the classic value chain to develop into a ?pipeline? which is designed to ensure the smooth flow of goods right along to the end-consumer. ?This can succeed only by means of the best possible logistics network,? Boris Pierre remarks. Dachser France not only organises the import of products from Europe and Asia for the DIY sector in France, but also sees to their continuing distribution right up to the point of sale at the same time. Altogether the company supplies 2 500 DIY stores in France on a daily basis. The company sees the cooperation with national DIY manufacturers? organisations, such as Unibal in France and BHETA in Britain, as well as the European Federation of DIY Manufacturers (Fediyma), as a deciding factor that allows it to react flexibly to market impulses. The French branch of Dachser DIY-Logistics is also active in Russia. As Boris Pierre describes this development, ?The Russian DIY market is growing by 20 to 25 per cent annually despite the crisis.? It is being supplied mainly by producers in Asia, though some from Europe are involved as well. In this complicated market, which is a growing one, Dachser France today organises all the relevant services: from shipping imports from Southeast Asia through to intra-European trade ? with the French DIY industry above all ? and classic local warehousing, and on to distribution to the local DIY stores as well. Then Dachser?s merchandising service ensures that the goods land directly on the shelves.
