Proxene Tools is a Taiwanese company that specialises in the production and export of adjustable wrenches. It was founded in 1984 by Arthur Wu. The products are stocked in home centres and also used in industry and the trade sector. The OEM market is supplied as well. Apart from Proxene, the wrenches are also available under the Fulco brand: a name symbolic in character, since the Chinese word “ful” means “rich”. To underline the claim to quality on the production side, Arthur Wu is happy to point to the awards that his products have already received. These include the renowned iF and red dot design awards which are conferred in Germany, the G-Mark Award in Japan and the Taiwan Excellence Gold Award. The company also has ISO 9001:2000 certification. The company employs a workforce of around 100 in Taiwan and, in addition, operates a production plant in Vietnam with some 135 employers. Proprietor Arthur Wu is proud of the low turnover rate, which is less than two per cent. Arthur Wu, who is closely involved with the Taiwan Hand Tool Manufacturers’ Association, expects to see further expansion in the next few years. As General Director he is pinning certain hopes on the Commercial Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA), which was signed and sealed with Chinese partner associations at the Taiwan Hardware Show last October and is intended to do away with import duties next year.
