The international market for laminate flooring is consolidating. Eastern Europe above all, as well as exports to Asia and North America, are showing gains. According to the Association of European Producers of Laminate Flooring (EPLF), the upward trend in these countries that became evident to laminate manufacturers last year has become stronger. Even though slight sales reversals are still being recorded in western Europe, 2013 remains a good year thanks to the gains in the other regional markets.
The 21 full member companies of the EPLF – meaning the producers of laminate flooring – sold 463 mio m² of flooring from European production facilities in 2013 (previous year 460 mio m²). This means the worldwide sales of the EPLF member companies rose by 0.7 per cent.
However, the laminate flooring industry’s core west European markets declined by close to three per cent in 2013 altogether according to the EPLF. Seen in absolute figures, the west European sales volume of 298 m² in 2012 fell to 290 m² in 2013.
Volume sales in Germany were clearly down, falling to a volume of some 72 mio m² from the previous year’s 76 mio m². Nevertheless Germany still remains the biggest individual market at the top of the ranking of west European markets. Turkey occupies second place with over 65 mio m² (previous year 66 mio m²). As the association explains, this is still a good result that can on the one hand be attributed to the Turkish companies that are members of the EPLF and on the other to the economic growth in this country on the Bosphorus. France retains third place in Europe, despite a slight decline to 39 mio m² (previous year 40 mio m²). Britain remains stable at 29 mio m² (previous year 29 mio m²) and fourth place, while the Netherlands come fifth with 19 mio m² (previous year just under 19 mio m²). Spain holds on to sixth place with 14 mio m² (previous year 15 mio m²).
Figures calculated by the EPLF show that the European producers of laminate flooring sold 103 mio m² (previous year 99 mio m²) in eastern Europe in 2013. This amounts to an increase of four per cent on the previous year. Poland once again heads the ranking with some 25 mio m² (previous year 24 mio m²), with Russia coming a good second by sales volume with 23.9 mio m²…
