B&Q contemplating entry on South Korean market

A team has been sounding out the trading conditions in this small country on China’s border. Japan is at present not on the expansion list

Hansen Tian, president of B&Q China, explained to journalists in Shanghai that, in addition to China and Taiwan, B&Q will probably have its own DIY superstores in South Korea from 2003. Over recent months a special team from B&Q has been sounding out trading conditions on the spot and has reached a positive conclusion so far as market opportunities are concerned. However, Tian ruled out any involvement by his company in Japan for the foreseeable future, because of the particular pattern of competition in that country.
