Hard floorcoverings will in future increase their market share of the American floorcoverings sector. This prediction was made by the trade journalist Kimberly Gavin at the spring conference of EPLF, the European laminate producers’ association. According to this prediction the market share of laminate will grow from 3.7 per cent in the year 2000 to ten per cent. Wooden floors will expand their 8.4 per cent share to nine per cent, tiles from 10.6 to 24 per cent. In the year 2000 the US market had a volume of US $ 20.1 bn (€ 21.3 bn), though a drop of four per cent is expected for 2001. Specialist stores are maintaining their 73.2 per cent share of floorcovering sales, in spite of the increased significance of the DIY stores.
