Last year the Canadian home improvement market grew by 7.8 per cent; it was particularly the large-format stores that stepped up the pace

The Canadian home improvement market grew in 2001 from CDN $ 26.32 bn to CDN $ 28.37 bn according to a report in the latest issue of the Hardlines Quarterly, the Canadian trade publication. This corresponds to growth of 7.8 per cent. The greatest amount of growth was notched up by the large-format stores with sales up by 19.3 per cent to CDN $ 5.39 bn. This means that their market share has increased by ten per cent to 19 per cent. The building materials trade increased sales by 5.3 per cent to CDN $ 13.42 bn. This remains the industry’s major sales channel with a 48.4 per cent share of the market.
