The Finnish trading group Kesko, which includes the K-rauta and Rautia DIY stores, is to receive recognition for its environmental management system at the UN World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg. The programme, which came into existence in 1997, covers such elements as the training of all store personnel in environmental affairs and comprehensive environmental audits before a store is eligible for a diploma. At present 13 DIY stores have qualified for the group’s environmental diploma, along with 152 of its supermarkets.
