Wayne-Dalton, the American manufacturer of sectional garage doors, is setting out to revolutionise the consumer market in Europe with its new concept
The Wayne-Dalton Corporation was founded in 1954 by Emmanuel Mullet within the Amish community. Today the company claims to be the market leader in North America, with annual sales of a million doors generating a turnover of US $ 400 mio, as well as No. 1 globally in the end-consumer market for sectional garage doors. Under the management of Willis Mullet, son of the company founder, the business is represented in 70 countries around the world, including France.
The beginning of 2001 saw an expansion of the manufacturer’s presence on the “old” continent: Sadimex Wayne-Dalton France, set up in the year 1995, then became Wayne-Dalton Europe. In that same year, 2001, the company achieved a turnover in excess of 10 mio euro from the sale of 20 000 doors.
The central location of the branch in Reims means that it is becoming the new headquarters for Europe. There 70 employees produce and market the entire range of products. In the meantime a branch has been established in Manchester, England, and the opening of a new production centre is being planned for Reims as well.
The sectional doors can be opened by remote control.
The sectional garage doors consist of several panels. The individual sections are galvanised and insulated with polyurethane foam. The patented “TorqueMaster” counterbalance system ensures safety of operation: the springs are embedded in metal tubing, and the system’s wire cables are concealed in the frame. All-round seals provide protection from wind and weather, and a floor seal compensates for uneven surfaces. The doors, which are available in standard sizes or to order, can be fitted with different types of windows depending on the model involved, and with an operator for ease of opening and closing.
Last year the ISO 2002 certified company developed a new concept: the ready-to-fit “Wayne-Dalton Evolution” sectional garage door with built-in operator. Installation is made easy because the door and operator are supplied as a pre-assembled unit.
The “2 in 1” concept offers a door that is ready to fit and a motor ready to plug in.
The motor is ready to operate and only requires plugging in. The consumer can choose where to install the separate wireless 75W lamp in the garage. The “iDrive” operator functions quietly and can be programmed for “soft” start and stop as well as partial opening for ventilation. There is a firm conviction at European headquarters that this “2 in 1” concept will revolutionise the automation of residential garage doors.
