Still fragmented

Nowhere in Europe does any single DIY retailer make it over a nine per cent market share

In the view of the UK market researchers AMA Research, France has made inroads into the DIY market of the European Union since 1998. Germany and Britain together still continue to represent more than half of this market, which the researchers estimate at around € 100 bn for the year 2001. The latest AMA survey suggests that the European DIY market is still characterised by fragmentation. No company has more than an estimated nine per cent of the market.
