The French DIY market grew last year by four per cent nominally and by two per cent in real terms. According to information compiled by the manufacturers’ organisation UNIBAL, it achieved a volume of € 16.9 bn, a total which also includes the garden ranges in DIY stores. Disproportionate growth was experienced by the DIY superstores, which grew their market share by 1.1 per cent. The wholesale trade saw even stronger growth in its consumer business. By contrast, the DIY departments of supermarkets and small stores below 300 m² in size recorded declining sales.
