Praktiker, the German DIY multiple, has completed the second quarter of 2003 with growth in like-for-like terms. With net external sales of € 771.1 mio, the overall increase came to 7.4 per cent or 7.9 per cent in same-store terms. The German DIY retailer records growth of 17.0 per cent in eastern Europe. The quarterly report of parent company Metro puts particular emphasis on the above-average growth in Hungary and Greece, as well as “pleasing” business results in Romania. There was a decline of 6.0 per cent in western Europe, however. The foreign share of sales rose to 22.4 per cent at mid-year. Results for the entire first half of 2003 come to a like-for-like increase of 14.7 per cent. This figure reflects above all the campaign run in March to celebrate the group’s 25th anniversary in Germany.
