Development of the German paint market marked by falling prices

It was possible to maintain sales overall in the German paint market (emulsions, wood preservatives and gloss paints) at last year’s level in the four months from February to May 2003, though volume sales rose by around four per cent, according to information from GfK. The DIY stores made good the two-figure deficit recorded by the hypermarkets, so that GfK ascertained an overall increase of 2 per cent here; specialist retailers managed to maintain last year’s level. Coloured emulsions were particularly in demand over the period under consideration: sales rose nine per cent by value and 14 per cent by volume.
