Turkey: The floor coverings market

The market volume for floor coverings in Turkey is estimated at US $ 435 mio (€ 372 mio) in the year 2003. It amounted to US $ 350 mio (€ 300 mio) last year. These are figures published by the BFAI (the German Federal Agency for External Trade). They are based on sales for an area of flooring that totals 175 m². Carpets and textile floor coverings represent the biggest segment at around 35 per cent. Wood has a market share of about 20 per cent. Demand for this material is currently increasing, as it is for PVC laminate as well. In addition to applications in public buildings, PVC and linoleum are becoming increasingly popular with people in the medium and lower income groups for furnishing their homes.
