One example of what the future of shopping is expected to bring is shorter queues at the checkout

A majority of 85 per cent of consumers in Europe accepts electronic article surveillance systems and shoplifting surveillance by store personnel. This emerges from a study entitled “The future of shopping in Europe” that was put together by security specialists Checkpoint Systems and the University of Maastricht. According to the study, consumers in Europe are open-minded on the subject of new technologies in the retail industry. They have high hopes of improvements in product availability and shorter waiting times at checkouts. One example of their wishes in this context is a visual display unit in their shopping trolley that would provide continuous information about the price of the trolley’s contents.
