Sears gives priority to appliances in hardware stores

Lower-demand product categories must make room for appliances

The American retail group has added a range of household appliances to 35 more of its hardware stores and converted them to the “Appliance and Hardware” concept. There are now 60 outlets working to this concept. The remaining 103 DIY stores are to include appliances in their range by the end of the year as well. They are also to retain their three other core businesses, garden and lawn, paint and tools. The Appliance and Hardware stores offer a range of up to 260 models of household appliances. In order to make room for these products, Sears has reduced the number of items in lower-demand categories, such as bathroom fittings, ceiling fans and lighting. Reductions have also been made in electrical and plumbing supplies.
