The market for electric garden tools in Europe

The summer of the century resulted in a tough year for the manufacturers of garden equipment in 2003

The market volume for electric-powered garden tools in Europe amounted to € 740 mio in 2003. This indicates a decline of eight per cent over the previous year. The quantity sold went down by two per cent to 10.7 mio units. These figures have been issued by the German manufacturer Bosch.
Market share by country:
United Kingdom: 24 per cent
Germany: 24 per cent
France: 13 per cent
Others in West Europe: 27 per cent
East Europe: 12 per cent
The market has experienced a 15 per cent decline in terms of value in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
The market volume in France has diminished by eight per cent.
The decline amounted to four per cent in the Benelux countries.
Europe’s only growth region was Eastern Europe, with an increase of seven per cent.
