The new forecast for the Austrian windows market based on a district-by-district assessment shows that progress continues to be rather sluggish. With slight market growth of 0.3 per cent in 2003, the overall market for windows in Austria saw relatively good development by comparison with its German neighbours. Analysts at the Interconnection Consulting Group are forecasting another drop in the market for 2004. The main reason for this is seen to be the marked decline of almost 15 per cent in the construction of multi-storey housing – and a 5.3 per cent decline is being forecast for the overall new-build market in 2004. The building renovation segment will remain the driving force, as it was in the year 2003.
In a comparison between the federal provinces in 2003 the winners were seen to be Vienna, Styria and Burgenland, with growth rates of 5 to 8.5 per cent. However, a changed picture is emerging for 2004 on the basis of the results that are available so far. Leading the field is Upper Austria with a growth rate of 6.2 per cent, followed by Vienna, which continues to perform strongly. The poorest results for 2004 are shown by Burgenland, Carinthia and Styria.
Where district results are concerned, Hartberg, Liezen and Waidhofen are demonstrating the best progress so far in the year 2004 with growth rates of between 8 and 12.2 per cent, whereas Klagenfurt Land and Mürzzuschlag have shown the least progress in comparison with the 2003 results.
The Hartberg district is the leader in both the private building segment and the commercial building segment – with renovation particularly strong, notching up market growth in excess of 20 per cent in the year 2004. On the other hand, Waidhofen an der Ybbs heads the field in the new-build market with a growth rate of almost 18 per cent.
