Gafa in Cologne will see the launch of Honda’s new “Izy” lawnmower series

In 1999 1.7 million petrol lawnmowers were sold in Europe, 75 per cent of them in the three major markets of France, the United Kingdom and Germany.
At this year’s Gafa, the international garden trade fair in Cologne, Honda intends to introduce “Izy”, a completely new type of lawnmower that has been planned and developed for European consumers. Central to the product development process were the results of a survey into customers’ lawn mowing requirements and needs. Basically these can be condensed into three factors: simplicity of operation, intelligence of design and uncomplicated technology.
Honda has attempted to combine all these requirements in the new Izy. In practice this should mean nothing less than trouble-free starting and easily accessible operating functions. The big, light green throttle and cutting height levers are instantly identifiable. The grass collector bag is made of a lightweight textile and has a capacity of 55 to 61 litres. Finally, the inside of the mower deck is so designed that even damp cuttings will not stick to it.
There is a choice of several petrol models offering three different cutting widths (41 cm, 46 cm or 53 cm), either self-propelled or pusher type and with a 4.5 hp or 5.5 hp OHC four-stroke engine.
These new Honda mowers are manufactured at Ormes near Orléans in France, where the company employs a workforce of 228.
