Moreover, an increasing degree of mechanisation has also led to rising average prices. In 2006 as many as 26.8 per cent of roller shutters were electrically driven and, according to Interconnection’s market researchers, this share is set to rise to 33.3 per cent by 2009. Driving the growth here is residential and commercial building development. The rates of growth in the venetian blind segment were very much lower, and only 12.3 per cent of the blinds sold were electrically operated in 2006. Mainly installed in office buildings, their share is expected to rise only marginally to 13.2 per cent by 2009.
The extremely positive trend experienced in 2006 will only continue to a certain degree in the next few years. Although growth of 6.0 per cent by value and 3.3 per cent by volume is expected for 2007, Interconnection is forecasting increasingly low rates of growth for the following years: in 2009 sales of venetian blinds are expected to increase by just 1 per cent, and sales of roller shutters even to go down slightly. The main reason for this lies with the weakening construction industry in Spain, which accounts for half of the roller shutter market in the five major countries of Europe.
