Manfred Maus, co-founder of Obi, is to receive the Global DIY-Lifetime Award

Manfred Maus is to receive the Global DIY-Lifetime Award. The presentation ceremony will take place within the framework of a formal dinner in June during the 2nd Global DIY Summit in Rome. The honour is conferred by EDRA, the European DIY Retail Association, and FEDIYMA, the European Federation of DIY Manufacturers. As these organisations explain, they chose Manfred Maus as someone who left his mark on the industry over a period of three decades. Back in 1970 he was one of the DIY pioneers in Germany when, as co-founder of Obi, he opened the first Obi DIY store in Hamburg. For many years he was managing director of the group, and chairman of the supervisory board from 2000 to 2004 as well. Mr Maus also presided over the BHB, a German retailers’ association, after it was re-established in 1991 until 2006. During this period his vision of a European industry association was put into practice in cooperation with colleagues belonging to the FMB in France. Mr Maus was also general secretary of EDRA from its establishment in the year 2002 up until 2004. Sir Geoffrey Mulcahy, long-standing CEO of the European market leader Kingfisher, will deliver the eulogy in Rome. When he himself was presented with the European DIY-Lifetime Award in Vienna in 2010, it was Manfred Maus who delivered the eulogy there.
