Clear increase for Hornbach in 2013/2014

German chain reports 5.0 per cent growth at home and 3.5 per cent abroad

Hornbach-Baumarkt AG, which operates 141 DIY and garden stores in nine countries throughout Europe, increased its sales in the fourth quarter of the recently completed 2013/2014 financial year (1 March 2013 to 28 February 2014) by 4.4 per cent to € 3.15 bn. According to the company, the 92 stores in Germany were principally responsible for the increasing surge of growth in the course of the financial year. They had expanded domestic sales by 5.0 per cent to € 1.83 bn at the end of twelve months. In like-for-like terms sales in Germany rose by 4.9 per cent. The domestic market share rose from 9.3 per cent to 10.0 per cent. The sales momentum in the rest of Europe also increased perceptibly when compared with the previous year. The company’s DIY sales in the eight countries outside Germany, including new openings, rose by 3.5 per cent to a total of € 1.25 bn.
