In 2015, the German garden market topped the sales level of the record year 2012 for the first time. The market volume grew by 1.5 per cent to € 18.329 bn, as announced by the Garden Industry Association (IVG).The biggest gains in market growth were achieved by the DIY stores. They increased their revenue by 4.2 per cent and consequently achieved a market share of 23.6 per cent. The reason for this is the high growth rate in the hardware sector. The specialist garden centres only recorded an increase of 1.5 per cent, thus maintaining their market share of 12.3 per cent, held since 2012.
The strongest growth segment was garden furniture with a plus of 4.3 per cent. Garden equipment increased by 2.9 per cent, gardening tools and accessories by 2.5 per cent. The hitherto strongest growth segment, barbecues, with a plus of 1.8 per cent, only managed to stay at the total market level. The green outdoor segment, with a growth of two per cent managed to remain above the market average. In contrast, the green indoor segment decreased slightly.
