The Japanese DIY market is in decline for the third year in a row, while the number of stores has continued to rise. The 4,970 locations surveyed by the Japan DIY Home Centre Association generated sales of JPY 3,975 bn (EUR 23.39 bn). This was 1.0 per cent less than in the previous year.
The DIY sector in Japan only received a massive boost in the first year of coronavirus in 2020. At that time, sales shot up by 7.0 per cent, but since then they have been declining year on year. Previously, they had stagnated from 2016 to 2019 at a level that was slightly higher than the overall industry sales now achieved.
