The company was established in 1976, or 25 years ago already, as a do-it-yourself retail outlet originally in the neighbourhood of Rotterdam. And so company founder Kees Nederhof, who had lived for many years in Australia with his family, laid the foundation for the enterprise’s future development in the Netherlands.
One main focus is represented by flat-pack furniture for the office.
One main focus of the activities of Homemakers 76 was on the area of flat-pack furniture from very early on, right at the beginning of the eighties. This led to the expansion of wholesale activities and, above all, supplying builders’ merchants and DIY superstores.
Using the brand name of “Bricostyle” and taking as its logo the kangaroo, symbolising speed and takeaway potential, the programme was rapidly deve- loped and extended to cover new areas as well.
Development then continued still further with the arrival of Ronald Nederhof, the founder’s son and director of the company today. Finally in 1997 company headquarters were moved to newly built administrative and warehousing premises of 15 000 m2 at Mördijk.
The Bricostyle programme today includes a great number of articles suitable for the office or living and dining areas, hobby uses, kitchens and bathrooms. They are mainly produced in spruce or pine, melamine-surfaced chipboard or as a combination of metal and wood. The workforce of 25 achieved total sales of 10 mio euro according to the latest figures available.

The philosophy of Homemakers 76 is to concentrate totally on the development, production and marketing of flat-pack furniture. It has its own team to design the furniture, purchase the necessary raw materials and have them processed into finished products by manufacturing partners in the Netherlands. Delivery is normally effected within 24 hours direct from the company’s own warehouse, which means it is possible to react extremely flexibly to customers’ requirements and demand trends in the marketplace. Own-label products are also developed to customers’ order in addition to the company’s own lines.
Today Bricostyle flat-pack furniture is not only to be found in almost all the DIY chains in the Benelux area, but is also being supplied to trading firms throughout Europe and all over the world. However, it is in Europe above all that the company sees considerable opportunities for development, and the intention is to make further progress here in the future.
