Founded in a small yard in 1904, C H Byron now supplies customers throughout Europe and the USA. “From small beginnings we have grown to become a major force in the supply of high quality door chimes and bells,” states Penni Anderson, the company’s chief executive, with pride, “and our goals remain the same today as they were 100 years ago – to provide our customers with the best service and remain at the cutting edge of innovation.“ Penni Anderson took over the company from her father in 1991.
Owing to continued expansion of the business, the company will mark its centenary by moving from its existing base in Oldbury in the West Midlands to new premises in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.
The wirefree thermometer door chime is a new feature of Byron’s range.
Byron’s extensive range of door bells and chimes features both conventional and wirefree technology, including wall-mounted systems and portable kits. Bell pushes come in traditional styles as well as modern sleek finishes such as brushed and pearl nickel and satin chrome. The company also supplies POS display solutions that inform customers about the products at a glance and showcase the designs.
At this year’s International Hardware Fair/Practical World in Cologne, Byron unveiled two new products: the intercom security system and the thermometer chime.
The new intercom security system is fitted to the door frame and looks like a standard bell push, but in fact it fulfils a security function. The weatherproof casing conceals a camera that relays pictures of the caller to a colour monitor inside the property. The unit is also equipped with an infra-red eye for operation at night, so that callers to the property after dark can still be identified.
Visual displays provide customer information at the POS.
The second innovation is a thermometer chime in wirefree technology, which serves a dual purpose as a chime and a thermometer. An LCD unit displays the temperature along with the time and date, and if mounted in the hallway could help to cut heating costs by indicating if the temperature is too high.
