Following the company's repositioning at the start of the 2005/2006 business year, Max Bahr is continuing on its innovative course. Now comes the trial of a small-format concept, in addition to revising the inventory, making changes to the store design, and the company's image campaign. The first practical trial of the new sales channel began on 9 June with the opening of a test store in Spandau, Berlin.
“MAX” is integrated into a normal Berlin residential building.
“MAX – the mini-DIY store” is intended to appeal specially to people in rented accommodation, offering a neighbourhood supply with a clearly structured selection of the most popular articles for DIYers on an area of 250 m². The needs of such customers relate mainly to DIY store products for renovating, maintaining and improving their city apartments.
This is what the interior of the mini-DIY store looks like.
In addition to tools, paint, hardware and sanitary fixtures, a further focus of the “MAX” assortment is on decorating lines. The range is completed by an outdoor area with a changing display of seasonal topics. In accordance with the motto, “MAX saves you money and long trips”, Max Bahr intends to offer goods at the same prices as in its DIY superstores.
Goods are not piled right up to the ceiling at “MAX”.
If the first “MAX” proves successful, the Hamburg-based DIY retailer is considering further expansion into other urban areas. But the company does not intend to be pressurized in this respect, in terms of either time or geography.
