Black and Decker is yet another firm that is concentrating on lithium-ion battery technology for future applications. The technology has been applied to the new 14.4 V cordless drill-driver. According to the company, the tool is lighter, while at the same time offering over 80 per cent more torque. The high quality of the product is emphasised by the hi-tech carbon design.
The Black & Decker range of impact drills is being extended by no less than four models, which offer a wide choice with a power input ranging from 500 W to 750 W. The models KR653K (650 W) and KR753K (750 W) are available for demanding drilling and hammer drilling jobs. Their newly developed, high-torque motor generates great power, though the manufacturer claims that the housing still remains very compact. One further new feature of these hammer drills is their automatic spindle lock that allows for the use of a one-piece keyless metal drill chuck.
The XT family of premium equipment for ambitious, semi-professional DIYers has also been on Black & Decker's expansion programme. A circular saw, a router, a hammer drill and a cordless drill/ driver are the latest members. The special feature of the circular saw, for instance, is that it cuts extremely accurately with the help of a removable laser with level square.
