The international company Pataco , headquartered at Ellg in Switzerland, offers DIY retailers the possibility to combat shrinkage with its range of security boxes. After all, in 2005 the inventory discrepancies in Europe’s DIY stores came to around 1.43 per cent, according to the latest study of the EHI Retail Institute.
“Where the risk of theft is so high, our “Safer” boxes are the ideal solution for increasing sales without adding to the operating expenses,“ is how Cornel Brühwiler, managing director of Pataco, explains the advantages of the system.
The company offers the security boxes in more than 40 different sizes, which means that they can safely store products ranging from razor blades to hammer drills.
The boxes can be placed on the shelves or, alternatively, hung horizontally or vertically with the help of a euro-tab. In the latter case, a little transparent tab is simply clicked onto the box. Pataco recommends their integration into the logistics cycle, with those responsible for warehousing or rack-jobbing filling the boxes, rather than the sales personnel.
The empty boxes that are collected at the checkout must periodically be taken back to the warehouse, where they can be more quickly refilled. According to Cornel Brühwiler, for dealing efficiently with the cycle (warehouse, shelves, checkout), only ten per cent more boxes are required than there are products in circulation.
Since many different products will fit into one particular size of Safer, Pataco offers an RFID…
