The UK company Spin Secure took advantage of two recent fairs, Totally DIY and the International Hardware Fair, for the launch of their new range of products. The focus was on two innovations: the “TapLock” and the “TapLock Adaptor”. These form part of a range of innovative security products which are designed around a new patented, torque-free locking technology. Put simply in the words of the supplier, once locked in place the products offer no resistance, and so cannot be removed by any application of force. The main retail product in the range is the “TapLock”. This is an easy to install security device which, when fitted onto the spout of an outdoor tap, seals the tap to stop the flow of water. That prevents tampering and unauthorised use of the water supply. What is more, it also conserves water and prevents waste, which is becoming increasingly important when many people across Europe are now on water meters and the cost of water is rising rapidly. In situations where the spout cannot be locked, ie, if a hose needs to remain permanently connected, the optional “TapLock Handle Adaptor Pack” contains the components needed to convert the standard “TapLock” into a replacement for the tap handle. The “TapLock” then becomes a permanent part of the tap, which means that it no longer needs to be removed to access water. The manufacturers claim that “TapLock” is easy to install in just a matter of minutes. Once locked in place the device will spin freely and the tap can only be used by inserting the magnetically coded key. Two keys are supplied in each standard pack. Joe Ferrara, sales director of Spin Secure Europe (www.spinsecure.co.uk), has confirmed that participation in the trade shows generated a huge amount of interest in the product, both across Europe and beyond. As a result, the company have now secured distributor agreements with several firms and are in talks with selected major suppliers to retail outlets. The standard product is supplied with Spin Secure branding in ‘ready to sell’ retail packaging. However, distributors’ individual requirements, including re-branding of the product and the use of alternative packaging options, can also be accommodated. In Germany the company is working in collaboration with Abus, who have repackaged the product under their own brand specifically tailored to the German market. “For Abus to be our exclusive distributor in Germany demonstrates that they see protecting water as a very important security issue; it…
