With this new concept the company from Feldkirchen, Germany, aims to solve two separate problems: that of transporting doors home from the DIY store and that of storage. The door is being offered to begin with as a panel framed door in two versions, beech or birch. It is planned to stock the racking with three widths of door for four different thicknesses of wall. Further variations are scheduled to follow later. The product is linked to a complete service and marketing package which makes available exploded views, building instructions, information for PoS presentation, self-service packaging and display elements. The door for assembling yourselfThe product is the brainchild of the two managing directors, Michael Wiessner and Rudolf Huf jun. They are convinced that this product is a great stroke of luck for them. “Already in the first year,” is Wiessner’s firm conviction, “we expect additional sales of around 10 000 elements through the do-it-yourself branch.” What the DIY doors look like before assembly The future will see a number of changes coming up at Südholz-Türen, which most recently achieved a turnover of 18 mio euro (DM 35 mio). “In the medium term we want to transfer over 50 per cent of door production abroad,” says Wiessner. “We are thinking in the first instance of the candidates for EU membership in the east, where today already around one third of our products are manufactured.”
