Turkey is increasingly being seen as a growth area for European DIY retailers. Companies that have already been involved for quite some time in this country on the Bosporus include the European market leader Kingfisher (through a joint venture with Koçtas¸) and two German chains, Praktiker and Bauhaus. The year 2010 saw Baumax, market leader in Austria as well as central and south-east Europe, complete its entry into this market. What is more, the French Groupe Adeo now also operates a DIY store in Turkey through its Leroy Merlin sales channel. Tekzen is actively involved as a home-grown DIY company. Meanwhile the country now also has its own trade fair for the industry. Following previous attempts, this year it is due to be held for the second time in Istanbul under the name of Home Improvement & DIY Suppliers Expo. Among the buyers at last year’s event were representatives from Home Depot (USA), Mr. Bricolage (France), Biltema (Sweden) and Saco (Saudi Arabia). Leroy Merlin and Tekzen both numbered among the exhibitors. The organisation is in the hands of the trade magazine Tedarik Gazetesi, which is published by Media Force, part of the Erem Group. The fair will be staged at the Istanbul CNR Expo Center from 15 to 18 September 2011. Download:
