After the relaunch of the Europe Statistics last year, which the Dähne Verlag has published for over two decades, the company has now brought out the second edition of the "Dähne Statistics DIY Europe 2015 - Review of Europe's DIY markets" as an extended version.
This study, covering 68 pages packed with the essential key performance figures for sales area and number of DIY stores; with current data status and a ten year review; enriched with revenue rankings for the top ten DIY retailers in Europe and enhanced with a comparative outlook for the top ten worldwide, offers its readers a comprehensive overview of what was going on in the European home improvement market last year. Additionally several analytical texts summarise the development in the most important countries.
After all, there was a lot of movement in the market. Just take, for example, the bankrupt German Praktiker Group, which held seventh place in the European revenue rankings in 2013, and has now completely disappeared from the market. Whereas the French company, Bricomarché, has moved up into the top ten, leaving behind its fellow countryman Mr. Bricolage, which had a very turbulent year. First of all, there was talk of its defecting to the British Kingfisher Group, then there was a change of heart (in 2015) and the insistence that it would remain independent.
This deal, which failed in the end, would have helped the British to win the head-to-head race with Groupe Adeo for the top spot in the European rankings, which they lost in 2012. Instead of this, the French competitor was able to not only retain its position as number one but also to strengthen it. With a revenue volume of € 14.952 bn, Groupe Adeo, the parent company of Leroy Merlin, among others, remains the undisputed number one among the European home improvement retailers.
