Normally Stockholm hosts the awarding of the Nobel Prize, but this year a special award is being presented. Stockholm City Hall will form the backdrop for the presentation of the 4th Global DIY Lifetime Award in 2016.
The Swedish capital was one of the front-runners when the industry voted at previous events for a venue. As a result, the 4th Global DIY Summit will be held here on 8 and 9 June 2016, and one of its highlights will be the honour bestowed on a mastermind of the industry.
The organisers have come up with a challenging main theme for the congress event of the global industry. "A Disruptive World - New Trends in Home Improvement" is the motto selected by the European DIY retailers' and manufacturers' associations EDRA and Fediyma, who are once again organising the event in tandem. The venue is the Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre.
The programme is categorised into five sessions: "Leadership - Engage to deliver maximum performance", "Connected home - Opportunities for DIY", "Disruptors - The new challenges in the digital world", "Market update - The impact of disruption on DIY" and "Home improvement around the world".
As well as familiar names and the CEOs of major DIY chains, the list of speakers features a number of representatives of the industry who have not previously appeared at the congress. For example, Véronique Laury of Kingfisher (Great Britain), Sergio Giroldi of Obi (Germany) and Régis Degelcke of Groupe Adeo (France) will appear on the platform alongside speakers from the retailing side, including John Gillam of Bunnings, Yuichiro Sasage of Komeri (Japan), Jennie Stenbom of Kesko (Finland), Murat Gigin of Tekzen (Turkey) and Sigurður Pálsson of Byko (Iceland).
John Gerosa of Google will appear at the Keynote Session. Market data will be provided by Cruz del Barrio of Euromonitor International, Reinier Zuydgeest of USP and Mark Herbek of Cleveland Research, who are also working as authors for DIY International, one of the congress media partners.
The event format closely follows the proven pattern of previous years, with long networking breaks, always very popular with delegates, scheduled for both days of the congress. A store tour and get-together on the eve of the congress will get the event underway.
