One year after the opening of the first of its new project store type in Borås, the German DIY retail chain Hornbach continues its expansion in Sweden's medium-sized cities: in September 2019, the company opened the second location in the new format in the southern Swedish city of Kristianstad. The store is a part of the retail centre "C4 Shopping" on the much frequented trunk road E22. Food and clothing are primarily offered here. Hornbach is renting the property for ten years and has invested EUR 4 mio in the location.
Over a retail space of a good 10 500 m² (measured according to the norms of the industry association BHB: 7 500 m²), private and professional customers in Kristianstad have access to around 25 000 articles which, according to the company, are immediately available in well stocked project quantities. In addition, 60 000 articles are currently available via the online shop which opened two years ago. They can also be ordered via mobile devices or at terminals in the store and can be delivered to customers' homes or to the store.
"Thanks to the connection with our online shop, the stores in Borås and Kristianstad are just as efficient as their big brothers in the major cities of Gothenburg, Stockholm, Malmö and Helsingborg," explains Oliver Garrecht, national chief executive of Hornbach in Sweden. The retail space of the five Hornbach stores in the catchment areas of the major cities are, on average, a good twice the size as those of the two smaller formats.

Just like in Borås, Hornbach offers its customers at the new location in Kristianstad a large number of products for their DIY and renovation projects which, thanks to the adjoining drive-in, are also quickly and comfortably available in large quantities. The company introduced the drive-in to the European DIY industry in Gothenburg in 2003 and, since then, has incorporated one into every Swedish store. As there is also a great demand for garden materials in the region, Hornbach decided to add a garden department to the new format at this location - unlike in Borås.
Complementing its range, Hornbach offers many services such as paint-mixing, woodcutting or a rental service for equipment, machines, trailers and transporters. A consultant for…
