The store tour in the congress city has established itself as the kick-off event for the Global DIY Summit - demand for it has grown steadily. In Berlin, too, the organisers let the participants get a good whiff of DIY store air - the Berlin air has been proverbial at least since the hit song "Das ist die Berliner Luft" ("This is the Berlin air") - and packed six destinations into the tour programme: six buses headed for six stores, including a garden centre.
The international guests were possibly most surprised by the Bodenhaus store, the distribution system for floor coverings developed by Hornbach. The location, which will open in 2021, offers around 5 500 articles on 8 820 m² as well as services such as 3D planning and tool hire. Both end consumers and professionals are addressed.
The Bauhaus store visited stood out with a remarkable building. When it opened in 2003, the location made headlines not only because of its huge sales area of 22 000 m², but also because of the building: the DIY store is integrated into the listed former Reichsbahn repair works.
Another fairly large store with 17 000 m² was the Globus Baumarkt location on the visit list. Opened in 2011, the store has already been converted to the new look with its modernised logo and features the 24/7 pick-up station.
