Profit growth overtakes sales increase

Home Depot has produced its quarterly results: like-for-like growth comes to five per cent

Home Depot has increased turnover in the first quarter of 2002 by 17 per cent on the same period last year to US $ 14.3 bn. Like-for-like growth amounts to five per cent. Profit grew by 35 per cent and reached US $ 856 mio. During the period under review the world’s number one among DIY retailers opened 57 new stores, a total never before achieved in just one quarter. The company had 1 386 outlets at the end of the quarter, including 48 stores in the Expo Design Center format. Meanwhile 769 stores offer special services for professional customers within the framework of the group’s “pro initiative”.
