Expansion of European retail trade

In August the European Union recorded an increase of 2.1 per cent on the previous year

The retail trade in the Eurozone sold 1.5 per cent more goods during August of this year than in the same month last year. The Statistical Office of the EU in Luxembourg estimates that turnover in the retail sector of all 15 member states combined was 2.1 per higher in August than the comparative figure for 2001. In comparison with July 2002, sales rose by 0.8 per cent in the Eurozone and by 0.5 per cent in the EU overall.
