The UK DIY and garden market grows by five per cent this year

London-based market researchers Verdict estimate that the volume of the DIY and garden market in the United Kingdom has grown this year by five per cent to approximately £ 16 bn (€ 23 bn). This means that this is the most rapidly growing sector in the UK retail scene. Growth amounted to 5.3 per cent in the year 2002. The three big groups – B&Q, Homebase and Focus Wickes – together account for more than a 45 per cent slice of the cake. The share of market leader B&Q is, in turn, more than double the size of the combined sales volume added to the equation by numbers two and three on the league table.
