Exhibitor numbers remain below those recorded at the last National Hardware Show in Chicago

Yesterday saw the start of the first three-day AHMA Hardware Show in Chicago. Following its separation from Reed as co-organiser of the National Hardware Show, the US manufacturers’ association AHMA decided to continue to run the old-established event in Chicago on its own and under the new name.
This year nearly 700 exhibitors from 15 countries are displaying their products and services on the McCormick Place exhibition site. That is another two-thirds down on last August, when the number of exhibitors experienced a sharp drop to 1 969; in the year 2002 the recorded total was just short of 3 000. By contrast with recent years, German exhibitors are not represented at the show this time.
The AHMA Hardware Show combines three fair sectors under the one roof: the World of Hardware & Tools, the World of Lawn, Garden & Living, and the World of Home Decorating. A comprehensive range of seminars has been organised for the three days of the exhibition to round off the programme available to visitors and exhibitors.
The AHMA considers that its concept for putting on a trade fair for the hardware, DIY and garden industry in Chicago has been proved to be the right one. Chief among its arguments in support of the event is the ideal location of the venue, which covers 75 per cent of the US market within a radius of a good 1 000 km.
