The 2003 French garden market in figures

A survey by Promojardin reveals that the gross volume of trade in the French garden market rose by 0.3 per cent to € 5.649 bn in 2003

The greatest amount of growth in 2003 was recorded in the area of garden equipment (+12 per cent), followed by non-durables (+10 per cent) and garden furniture plus barbecues (+8 per cent). The poorest results were recorded by house plants and machinery (-9 per cent each).
In 2003 the DIY superstores and garden centres notched up the greatest sales growth at 6 per cent each over the previous year’s level, followed by the agricultural stores at +4 per cent. The machinery specialists, on the other hand, had to cope with a 9 per cent drop in sales. The seed and flower trade, which experienced an 8 per cent decline, was also on the losing side.
