One contact, many suppliers

The Swedish Trade Council has initiated the Sweblit.com project with the aim of reaching European DIY retailers and builders’ merchants

The name is both an abbreviation of Swedish Building & Living IT and the name of a domain. The project is intended to create a link between European traders who supply building materials and the many small and medium-sized manufacturers of building materials and DIY products. The most important tools for Sweblit are direct customer contact and the e-trade.
Direct trade routes
Project leader Lars Johansson explains that work within the organisation is focused directly on the client in order to keep costs down for both buyer and seller. Much effort goes into determining client needs with regard to product quality, packaging, EAN coding and so forth. This method means that the manufacturers are prepared well in advance for the demands of the market. Sweblit can also help clients in their search for specific products.
Advantages for traders
Both smaller specialist shops and larger chains can access a great numberof high-quality products through Sweblit. New companies and alternative products can also be identified.
“Being able to find a great variety of products is highly rated by our partners,” says Johansson, “And even if the right product isn’t found immediately we can nearly always come up with a suitable alternative through our wide network of contacts.”
Electronic trade
Sweblit on the internet is primarily an electronic catalogue of products from the participating companies. As Johansson explains, “Through this catalogue we aim to introduce new products and companies that we believe are of interest to European DIY and builders’ merchant chains. We also offer buyers the possibility of establishing contact directly with us to find out more about the products.”
Sweblit will soon be starting a second phase, which will offer the user more functions and a greater degree of interactivity. This should increase the efficiency of the joint work between buyer and seller.
“Our goal is to be in a position to offer all clients and suppliers all the advantages of a functional e-commerce system by the end of this year. This can be done using either our system or the trader’s system. We will actively support all those manufacturers who already have their own e-commerce systems in adapting to buyers’ systems in order to achieve the greatest possible cost efficiency,” says Johansson.
End consumers will also be able to use Sweblit.com to obtain product information which goes beyond that offered in the store.
Swewood
Sweblit is one part of a larger project, Swewood, which has companies in the timber and building materials industry as its clients. Swewood works more with components than with finished products and helps to adapt components to the individual client’s special requirements.
