International members ensure sales increase

24.05.2006

The 3e Group concluded its latest financial year with a sales figure up by around 2.5 per cent to € 488 mio

The main responsibility for this stems from the group's consistent implementation of an international orientation. This has resulted in the current total of 119 members abroad increasing their sales in comparison with the previous year by 8 per cent.
Let's Do It Hungary up to expectations
Developments in the Hungarian market can be seen as an example of the international success that the Austrian company is achieving. Last autumn saw 3e for the first time apply the "Let's Do It" trading concept to a market outside Austria. The ten outlets affected were achieving sales growth of between 30 and 50 per cent six months after the launch of the new umbrella brand. "This proves that clear positioning is effective in the Hungarian marketplace as well," explains chairman Dr Günther Pacher. Seven or eight further outlets are to be added in Hungary this year.
The concept might well be transferred to new markets, too, within the foreseeable future. The chairman of the 3e group sees Slovakia as a possible target market for Let's Do It, alongside Serbia-Montenegro.
The objective in the Austrian marketplace was to make qualitative improvements to the way the concept is implemented there. Certain businesses that had not implemented the concept as agreed, are now threatened with withdrawal of their licence. Where the Austrian market is concerned, Günther Pacher sees the potential for 15 to 20 more outlets within the group.
Double-digit Toolpark sales
Sales figures for the Toolparks rose in the recent financial year by 22 per cent over the previous year. Since their launch in 2003 the number of outlets has risen to seven, following one new opening in April.
Sales trend in detail:2003: + 20 per cent, from the same retail area2004: + 30 per cent, 25 per cent from new retail area2005: + 22 per cent, 10 per cent from new retail area"This development is even more remarkable, given that the general environment still remains difficult in the tools and hardware sector. The competitive pressure is still high, and the deterioration of prices continues unabated. Double-digit growth figures are definitely unique," in Günther Pacher's analysis. One or two new openings per year is what he sees as potentially viable for the next few years.
The 3e Group sees opportunities for growth not only in relation to Toolpark, but also where business with trade customers is concerned. Here the intention is to further develop the "E-Norm" trading format, a concept that has now attracted five new members.
Sales 2.5 per cent up
Altogether the 3e Group, with its 306 members (187 in Austria and 119 abroad), generated sales of € 488 mio in the 2005 financial year, which amounts to an increase of 2.5 per cent. A sales increase of 8 per cent to € 106 mio was achieved abroad.
Sales in Austria came to € 382 mio, amounting to an increase of 1 per cent over the previous year.
Strategic outlook
Günther Pacher foresees a continuation of the existing trend for the current financial year. "We again expect a slight increase at home and powerful growth in the international markets. Which is of course very dependent on the speed at which we can implement our sales concepts abroad."
