Adoption of a new constitution means that the European DIY Retail Association is now officially the sector's European umbrella organisation

The European DIY Retail Association (EDRA), previously in the hands of the BHB (Federal Association of German DIY, Building & Garden Specialist Stores) and the FMB, its French partner organisation, has now been stood on its own two feet. The representatives of Europe's leading DIY retailers unanimously adopted a new constitution in Berlin on 2 December 2009, which puts EDRA e.V. under the leadership of its president, Régis Degelcke of Groupe Adeo. John W. Herbert was confirmed in the position of executive director, which he has held since 2004. EDRA's first goal is to have a representative in Brussels, so that lobbying activities can be undertaken in the place where relevant laws are enacted. After all, the sector is responsible for sales estimated at € 80 bn annually. Further issues of importance to EDRA are networking and the compilation of market data.
