At the start of this year, the sea freight import purchasing consortium was formed as part of the Synlog logistics cooperative. The operative goal of the new cooperative is, according to a press report, the generation of sustained stable and low sea freight rates in connection with the necessary security of having containers at their location on time. The combined volumes of a purchasing cooperation forms the basis of this and enables members both better conditions as well as more security in procurement, according to the report. Affiliated by a joint, long-term purchasing strategy, the Beneficial Cargo Owners (BCO) work together and can purchase their required services on the container shipping market directly from the shipping companies.
