Both male and female survey respondents in the young age group showed a similar level of interest in learning new skills. However, the type of skills they wished to acquire differed. While the men were more interested in learning construction skills, the women were primarily attracted to acquiring know-how regarding decoration. The authors believe that to increase the footfall of the next generation, DIY stores should impart more knowledge regarding the content of DIY jobs and the skills required. Above all, good online videos are preferable for this in all age groups.
The results are based on the European Home Improvement Monitor for the 4th quarter of 2018, in which "Do-it-yourself versus Do-it-for-me" is explained in greater detail. 6 282 online interviews with consumers in eleven European countries (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden and Great Britain) formed the basis here.
