Hornbach, Germany's number three DIY store operator in terms of sales, generated new record sales in its past 2021/22 financial year (1 March 2021 to 28 February 2022). The company announced that, based on unaudited preliminary figures, the Hornbach Group's net sales grew by 7.7 per cent to EUR 5.875 bn. A range of plus 2 to plus 7 per cent had been expected.
The driving force behind this growth were the DIY stores in other European countries. These increased their sales by 7.3 per cent. In the previous year, growth here had already amounted to 10.8 per cent. Growth was less pronounced in Hornbach's home market of Germany, where like-for-like sales rose by 3.7 per cent in the 2021/22 financial year (previous year: 18.6 per cent). The international share of consolidated sales thus rose from 48.1 to 49.4 per cent.
The Hornbach DIY store division as a whole, which includes 167 locations in Europe as well as nine national online stores, increased its sales by 7.4 per cent to EUR 5.496 bn. Like-for-like and currency-adjusted sales rose by 5.4 per cent. Online sales (including click & collect) grew by 10.5 per cent to EUR 944 mio (previous year: EUR 854 mio). The Hornbach Baustoff Union GmbH division reported a sales growth of 11.8 per cent to EUR 377 mio.
The increased focus of consumers on their own homes had continued, Hornbach stated in its statement. The pandemic-related closures of stationary stores serving private customers had been offset by the expansion of online retailing and click & collect.
