Home improvement retailers in the Southeast Asia region have started to go down the sustainability route, with some winning accolades for their Environment, Sustainability, and Governance (ESG) programmes. Even before ESG reporting requirements are enforced in different markets around Southeast Asia, companies in the home improvement industry are already putting in place strategies and initiatives that aim to reduce their ecological impact, ensure better governance, and create a better, more diversified environment for their employees. DIY International took a look at the environmental efforts of seven of the leading home improvement retailers in the region – Malaysia’s Mr. DIY, Thailand’s Home Pro, DoHome and Siam Global House, the Philippines’ Wilcon Depot Inc. and AllHome Corp., and Ace Indonesia – to see how far their commitments go.  The two-part report delves into the nascent efforts of these companies to reduce their environmental footprint, how they are helping to normalise conscious trade, and the direction they are taking moving forward.
