Leroy Merlin has opened its first stand-alone garden centre near Cagliari in the south of Sardinia. The store in the town of Elmas has a sales area of 2 000 m² inside and 1 000 m² outside, reports the industry service diyandgarden.com There is 1 700 m² for storage and logistics. The sales area is divided into four large segments: Inspiration and Decoration, Technology, Projects and Design, and Online. The location in Elmas was previously used by Bricoman, the professional-oriented sales division of the French group Adeo in Italy.
Adeo apparently still sees Leroy Merlin Garden as a trial run. Whether or not it will become an independent sales line was left open by Gianluca Carpanesi, responsible for the garden business at Leroy Merlin Italia and initiator of the new garden centre, in an interview with the trade magazine Ferramenta & Casalinghi before the opening. It is not a chain of its own, but an extension of the existing brand, he said. The concept could possibly help to expand Leroy Merlin's presence in Italy.
